Starbucks Increasing Prices Again

mom says

cup of coffeeI heard the announcement and was not surprised at all.  Almost yearly now, Starbucks announces it must raise prices due to some reason or another.  I don’t know why they keep trying to justify their reasoning when the bottom line is they just want to make a better profit.  I know what Starbucks actually said but below is a more accurate representation and what they should have said:

To all consumers of our products:

In order to increase our profits even further we intend to raise prices yearly and we fired the public relations person whos job it is to write the yearly announcements letting you know we are raising prices.  We have found that you will continue to buy our products regardless of why we increase the price so we want to stop wasting your time and ours trying to make up good sounding reasons for raising the prices.

Bottom line is we want more money of your money so our corporate big wigs go can on nice vacations and put their kids through college at your expense and we know you will pay it.  We have recognized that consumers aren’t as stupid as we would have liked to believe and they no longer buy the reasoning that the cost of making the product has gone up and therefore responsible for the price increase.  We acknowledge, mainly because the consumers finaly figured it out, that if the cost of making the product were the real reason for the price increase then the price would decrease when the cost of making the product decreased as well.  We never intend on decreasing the price as we already have you paying the higher price.

Thank you for continuing to buy our products and we apologize for wasting your time all these years with well written statements by a public relations person whos only job is to fool you into thinking we actually care about you.  Please don’t forget we have actually fired said public relations person in order to bolster public relations and of course increase our profits.

Please keep this announcement in a well guarded spot so you can pull it out each year the price increases and reread why we are “really” raising the prices; as we also intend to fire the customer service staff that has been responding to the angry and annoying phone calls, emails and letters as to why the price is “really” increasing.

Well Starbucks can suck it!  That pretty picture at the top of the coffee cup with the pretty foam on top you see, well that is mine.  I made it this morning all by myself for a fraction of the cost.  My coffee taste just the same and is awesome. I got the recipe from The Recipe Circus website.

I did the math, approximately, and if I bought my Quad Venti Caramel Macchiatto from Starbucks every day it would cost me about $2200.00 a year.  If I make it home it will only cost me $200.00 a year.  That is not taking into consideration the price increase that is on the way.

I realize that the statement above isn’t Starbucks’ official statement though it should have been at least it would have been honest.  Even though Starbucks isn’t going to say it, it is what it is all about so below is my response to Starbucks:

To Starbucks:

Thank you for finally being honest about your desire to make a bigger profit.  I already knew this was the case but you are correct that I still chose to buy your products over the years.  I certainly appreciate that you are going to stop lying to me about why you are raising prices (I do feel sorry about the public relations person who lost their job though).

After careful consideration I have decided that I am no longer going to purchase your products.  It isn’t the years of lies you told or even because you pretended to care about me when you really didn’t care at all.  I am no longer going to purchase your products because I am tired of being a sheep and beholden to corporate greed.

I am not going to kid myself or you into thinking that I will move out to a farm and start growing and raising my own food or start making all my products by hand to avoid corporate greed.  What I will do is reevaluate the amount of time and money I spend on your products that I could easily make in my own home for much, much less.  Instead of looking at your products as something I must have all the time, I will start looking at them as a treat to have every once in a blue moon (to limit your confusion “blue moon” is not very often at all).  I do so enjoy your products but I also enjoy my hard earned money.  I would rather keep my money to go on vacation or put my kids through college rather than give it to your corporate big wigs so they can go on vacation and put their kids through college.

Please keep this note in a well guarded spot so you when you start to wonder why profits are down and you have fewer customers, you can refer to it.  This will actually benefit you, as you noted you are firing the staff that responds to customer complaints, with fewer customers you definitely won’t need a big staff (sorry that they are losing their jobs though).
