Playing Taxi Driver

mom says

Last night I got a phone call from a friend of mine in Tennessee.  We grew up together in Saudi Arabia some 20 years ago and just reunited back in July of this year.  A friend of hers, whom I met at the reunion, is flying up to see her in Tennessee this weekend for her birthday.  Unfortunately there is an 8 hour lay over in Orlando.  She wanted to know if I would save her friend from the utter boredom of being stuck in the Orlando International Airport for 8 hours.  Of course I said yes, what are friends for.

So here I am up at 5am to do some light housekeeping before I have to get the kids off for school and then go out to the airport.  Thankfully I got my errands done over the last few days so am free.  Since I am still not sleeping right this favor will also help keep me awake so maybe I can sleep tonight.

My oldest son then informs me that tonight is Friday and the highschool football game is at home.  No, he doesn’t play but the kids are required to do some volunteer hours in order to graduate.  He and a friend have chosen to work the concession stand that raises money to help the team and the school.  He will maybe be home at 2:30pm and need to be driven back to the school at 5:30pm or he might just stay at school till the game starts.  Then I have to pick him and his friend up after the game to bring them home.  At the last game they had a torrential downpour and stopped the game for awhile.  They ended up being there until almost 11pm.  I seriously hope that doesn’t happen tonight because I would like to be asleep by 10pm.

In between taking care of my friend’s friend, which I am happy to do, and driving duties for my oldest son, I still have the other three to deal with.  My next to oldest was sick yesterday and home from school (yes actually sick) so I am hoping he is well enough to go today.  My 11 year old just showed up at my door about 10 minutes ago to announce he has had a stomach ache all night and hasn’t been able to sleep and now his stomach is hurting worse.  I am praying there is not a stomach bug going around already because with four kids it just passes from one to the other for week long misery.  If my 13 year old and my 11 year old are too sick for school then I need to make arrangements for my 8 year old to be picked up from school.  They all walk home from school daily but if the two oldest are missing I can’t let the 8 year old walk home alone.  It is going to be a fun and interesting day all around.

Since it seems it is going to be a busy day I thought I would take a few minutes to write up my daily post.  With all I have to do I am hoping nothing goes amiss or I will have to come back and update the post.  I am still on a high from the lovely romantic card from yesterday so even if something does go wrong it will be trivial in my world.

With all this driving I am doing I think it is time to do a little research on how to save on gas.  Once the school year starts it seems I am in the car more than I am at home.  With 4 kids I drive the good old mini-van and for anyone who doesn’t know, they suck on gas mileage even under prime conditions.  Keep an eye out over the next few days because once I figure out how to save on that precious gas and get the most mileage I can, I will write it up and pass it on.  If anyone already has some good tips or ideas feel free to leave a comment and share with us all.
