Now On To The Real Stuff

mom says

I have been focusing on Halloween and then this spanking thing came about and then I had to respond to the spanking thing, so I have neglected the daily life post in general.  Not that much exciting has really happened in the past few days.  I have had a migraine or several really for three days now and that has been super swell fun.  The migraine meds didn’t work so on to the straight narcotics.  I got some relief from the narcotics but they made me sleepy.  So was I really in less pain or just asleep through it?  Either way I was doing better by the end of last evening but it has all started anew today.  I am staring at the bottle of narcotics now, debating taking one.

Yeah I lost the debate and am now back with less of a migraine.  It is so hard to focus on tiny words when your brain feels like it is trying swell to a size that out matches your head.  I probably shouldn’t write when I am on narcotics but who knows maybe it will make my post better.  I don’t think they can get any worse.  I have gained a grammar Nazi who likes to email me after each post and point out my grammatical errors.  I fixed them in the beginning but I know I am driving him crazy by leaving them and that just seems like more fun.

Grammar is part of the whole SEO thingy.  SEO is search engine optimization.  It is what people spend hours on perfecting so their websites and web pages end up in the number slot on Google and other search engines.  I have been doing my homework people.  See I don’t just sit around sipping my homemade (because Starbucks screwed me by raising the price) caramel machiaatos and watching soap operas.  This SEO stuff is serious business, so serious people have built entire businesses out of it.  Type SEO into Google and get back 132 million results, serious stuff going on with that.

Unfortunately for me, SEO is as boring as learning proper grammar, more unfortunate they are both necessities so I have to learn them.  I should have said WAS boring because I stumbled upon an amazing website that entertains and teaches me about SEO copy-writing, what more could I ask for?  Really what more could you, my faithful reader, ask for?  No more screaming at the monitor, “why do you have a comma there, it doesn’t go there” and you will be able to find me in the search engines without having to come up with some weird combination of keywords.

Erika Napoletano is my new goddess.  Her website can be found at http://www.redheadwriting.com if you have any desire to see the person I plan to stalk on a regular basis.  I even took the time to email her and she unwittingly answered, never respond to a stalker Erika, it just encourages them.  As I explained to her, this blogging thing isn’t going how I want.  I can carry on the best conversations in person and make people laugh or engage them into silly debates (silly because they will lose) but when I write this stuff down it just doesn’t translate.  I was considering giving it up and just making the site all articles on parenting instead.  If you are one of the 6 people who actually enjoy the blogging side of my website, tell Erika thank you because she is the reason I am going to keep at it for a little while longer.  Oh and according to her website, if you sign up for her emails, she gives away free ponies, who can resist free ponies?  She also has a penchant for unicorns and as I am a collector of unicorns (not the real ones my backyard is not that big) that just endeared me further.

I am actually not doing too bad in the SEO department when it comes to the search engines.  Google has definitely found me along with the others.  I have 23 post or articles that are in the top ten search results for some pretty common and well fought over keywords.  I knew nothing about SEO when I started this and just used common sense.  I only listed keywords that were relevant, I always gave a description and a different title, I actually write my own content instead of copy and paste from others (a big no-no that is done far too often) and I add new stuff.  If you type in mom versus, this site comes up as number one but in general who types mom versus as their keywords.  Point is I haven’t done too bad for being a total noob.  Now though, that I will be regularly stalking Erika’s site, I will improve.

As for the rest of my life, that is going pretty good too.  The kids have had a long weekend off from school (why the school insists on doing this to me I don’t know).  I went to the grocery store on Thursday and bought a great deal of “cook it yourself” food for the kids.  With Halloween just around the corner I knew I would be busy working on that instead of cooking dinner.  Don’t worry my kids eat just fine and actually prefer the “eat when you want” style sometimes.  I don’t make it a habit and usually cook for them but hey I am not perfect.

I did take Saturday night off from working and spent it with the kids.  My youngest was clamoring for a family night so a family night it was.  He wanted to play a board game but, with the migraine stirring about in the back of my brain, I couldn’t agree to that torture.  Yes playing board games with kids is torture to me.  A fight always breaks out at some point.  I soothed his desire for a board game by offering banana splits and a movie instead.  I even let the little one come to the store with me to pick up all the makings for the banana split.  He was in heaven being able to dictate what kind of ice cream, edible ice cream bowls and toppings all the kids would get.  We only had a minor issue and that was the oldest one who had to continue texting.  I put a stop to that because this was family night.  My littlest one really seemed to need a family night with everyone involved so I wasn’t going to let the oldest one rain on his parade.  Other than that minor issue, which was dealt with (dearest older child the world will not come to an end if you don’t respond to a text message immediately), it went great.

I need to get back to doing Halloween stuff so off with you now to whatever site you go to next when you have run out of things to read here.  Oh go to twitter next and add momversus so you can follow me on twitter and then go to Facebook and like the fan page and then go to YouTube (although there isn’t anything there now, you will be the first notified when something is) and Feedburner so you can be updated in all the special ways of social media and never miss a thing that is going on here at Mom vs. the World.

  1. Yes, I do give away free ponies (shovel not included). Thanks for the mention and looks to me like you’re doing a pretty damn fine job with the “blogging thing!”

I am like a giddy highschool girl who just got asked to the prom by the cutest boy in school. I am honored you stopped by because a) I never told you my website and b) you are far too fantastic to be slumming down here!
